The annual Influencers in Law recognition highlights attorneys and legal leaders whose professional accomplishments, leadership, and contributions are helping shape the legal profession and the communities they serve. Judge Prudenti’s selection reflects a career that has had an impact across nearly every corner of New York’s legal system, from the courtroom and court administration to legal education, private practice, and mentorship.

About Hon. Gail Prudenti

Judge Prudenti has spent more than four decades in the legal profession, including more than 20 years on the bench. During that time, she became the first woman from Suffolk County to serve as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, and later its first female Presiding Justice. She also served as Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York State, overseeing the administration of the statewide court system.

Her career later took her to Hofstra University’s Maurice A. Deane School of Law, where she served as Dean from 2017 through 2023. In 2023, Judge Prudenti joined Burner Prudenti Law as a partner, bringing her decades of judicial, administrative, and academic experience to the firm’s estate administration and guardianship practice.

Judge Prudenti continues to contribute to the profession through leadership, mentorship, and Judicious Advice, a Burner Prudenti Law initiative through which she shares her experience with attorneys, firms, judges, and others navigating complex legal and professional issues.

Judge Prudenti’s selection as an Influencer in Law is a fitting recognition of both the career she has built and the work she continues to do today.
